It has been said that to
write a good song you have to have the stories, the experience. Tim Flannery has been
traveling the roads of America and beyond for the last 30 years. His songs are the stories
of a man who has journeyed from the creeks and coal mines of Kentucky to the ocean swells
of the Pacific islands, with stops at just about every major league ballpark in between.
Like Californias Santa Ana winds, the journey that has led Tim Flannery to this
point in his life has been equally constant and unpredictable.
Baseball has been a constant presence in his life since
childhood. The ebb and flow of the games blustery days and often unpredictable
events have influenced his life philosophy and are regularly a part of the stories he
tells in his songs. After 25 years as a San Diego Padre player, coach and broadcaster,
Flannery became the third base coach of the San Francisco Giants in 2008.
Music from the foothills of
the Kentucky coal mines are deeply embedded in Flannerys roots. He probably had a
guitar in his hand before a baseball glove. Harmonies, melodies and lyrics course through
his veins like a tornado marking its path.
Music has traveled with him through the seasons of his life and the sport that he loves,
from Florida to Fiji and back home to San Diego. He calls on his familys deep
history, lonely nights on the road and the pervasive love of the game to write his songs.
Tim released his 8th record
"The Wayward Wind" in 2007. He teamed up with musician/producer Jeff Berkley for
a third time to make this album and you can count on all the Enablers being in the mix
including; Doug Pettibone, Dennis Caplinger, Calman Hart, Randi Driscoll and Berkley
himself. Youll also get to hear from some old and new friends in Dani Carroll and
Barbara Nesbitt. From the traditional bluegrass "Kentucky Towns," to the
celtic overtones of "Pieces Of The Past", you will hear the influences of his
ancestors and know the stories of a man who wears his traveling shoes and his heart on his
sleeve.
Tims records have been
released in Ireland, and he has been nominated for music awards. He continues to tour and perform his music all over
the country. His 9th record in 14 years, "Traveling Shoes", is set to be
released in the fall of 2009 on Whalebone Records.
Flannery dons his baseball
cleats and returns again this baseball season to coach 3rd base for the Giants. He continues to follow those gypsy winds he writes
about and draws from the experience of the game he loves.
Shifting winds, daily doses
of living, Americas pastime; Tim Flannery relies on the constant unpredictability of
weather, life, baseball and music to write his stories and sing his songs that flow from
the core of his being.
